Rose Hamershock '11

Rose Hamershock graduated with a B.S. in mathematics from Muhlenberg College. During her time at Muhlenberg, her professors encouraged her to look for extracurricular learning opportunities. She participated in a computational biology Research Education for Undergraduates program at Virginia Tech in the summer of 2009 and the Summer Institute for Training in Biostatistics (better known as SIBS) at Boston University in the summer of 2010. Her senior year at Muhlenberg, Rose learned more about clinical trial statistics in an independent study with Dr. McGuire. In 2013, Rose obtained her MA in biostatistics from Boston University. During her studies at BU, she worked as a research assistant for the Health and Disabilities Working Group, where she worked with data pertaining to health care for people with special health care needs. After graduation, Rose worked as a biostatistician on quality improvement initiatives for Boston Children’s Hospital. Today, Rose is a biostatistician at Brigham and Women’s hospital in the Thrombolysis in Myocardial Infarction (TIMI) Study Group. TIMI is an academic research organization that conducts and analyzes international cardiology clinical trials. In her role, Rose primarily performs survival analysis and is embarking on Genome Wide Association Studies in collaboration with the Broad Institute.

Gabe Hurtado '13

Gabe Hurtado ’13 graduated from Muhlenberg with a bachelor’s degree in political science and minor in mathematics. After Muhlenberg, Gabe attended Lehigh University as part of the Community Fellows and Political Science Master’s programs. Through his fellowship, he worked for the West End Alliance, a community development organization in Allentown’s West End Theatre District. In 2014, Gabe started work at the Lehigh Valley Planning Commission as an intern, and later, community planner. As a planner, he reviewed land development projects, supervised the collection of regional transportation infrastructure performance data and managed multiple public outreach efforts. In August 2016, he was hired as the College’s enrollment data manager & analyst. In this role, Gabe serves as a primary departmental data expert, responsible for campus integration and analysis of admission and financial aid data.

Gabe will be speaking in Statistical Analysis and attending the networking lunch on Tuesday, April 10.

Alice Janke '10

Alice earned her BS in mathematics and a minor in economics at Muhlenberg and then went on to Villanova for her MS in applied statistics. While at Muhlenberg, Alice was a calculus 1 Learning Assistant and a member of Phi Mu. At Villanova, Alice was a graduate assistant where she graded and worked in their tutoring center. Since graduating with her masters, she has worked at Crayola as the forecasting statistician. At Crayola, Alice is on the demand planning team, which creates the monthly forecast that is sent to supply chain. She was involved in upgrading and is an expert on the current forecasting software, she helps the team understand the statistical models and how/when to use them, and she is involved with training and implementation of a new forecasting process. In addition to the third party forecasting software, Alice utilizes Minitab and R for her statistical analyses and modeling. Alice earned her Green Belt in Six Sigma in 2015 and worked on a Black Belt project in 2016.
